Senior Research Associate, Protein Sciences (Biophysics)

We Are Genetic Navigators bringing together passionate, creative and dedicated professionals to join a rapidly-growing startup on our mission to translate novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines. We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual with a strong background in Protein Sciences. Individuals will join a dynamic and highly-collaborative multidisciplinary team focused on discovery and advancement of new drug candidates. The primary responsibility of this position will be the expression, purification, and structural/biophysical characterization of proteins. The successful candidate will be of the Drug Discovery team and contribute to the discovery of new therapies through their work in protein science and production.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

  • You will conduct protein expression and purification experiments to support drug discovery programs.
  • You will perform hands-on protein crystallization trials and crystal harvesting.
  • Design and execute biophysical experiments to support drug discovery.
  • You will work with scientists to perform biophysical techniques and optimize protein production.
  • Contribute to the generation of new experiments, techniques and collaborate with scientists on scientific literature.
  • Summarize/interpret results and present findings in research meetings.

Your Navigation Tools:

  • B.S. or M.S. in a biological or chemical field with 3+ years of relevant experience in recombinant protein production and characterization. Industry experience is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in protein production (bacterial, insect and mammalian cells) and purification with modern chromatography techniques.
  • Experience in protein characterization with various biochemical and biophysical techniques (DSF, SPR, FP).
  • Experience working with diverse protein targets is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of protein crystallization (manual, robotics) and condition optimization for obtaining diffraction-quality protein crystals.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, excellent record-keeping skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and perform well in a team environment.

Automation Engineer / Automation Manager

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated senior-level engineer to join us and contribute towards accelerating the drug discovery process by deploying cutting edge automation platforms. As we continue to bring more programs and processes online, the individual will play a key role in building out the automation group and infrastructure to support the growth.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

  • You will be working closely with scientists to automate process to improve efficiency and throughput.
  • You will be responsible for deploying walk-up systems and fully integrated automated platforms comprising plate handling robots, liquid handlers, plate readers, storage devices, etc. to support discovery workflows.
  • As new processes come online, you will be responsible for working with scientists to transfer them to the automated platforms and train users to operate them.
  • You will be participating in the design and layout of the automated instrumentation lab as we start looking at a new facility.
  • You will be responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation and coordinating with the vendors to ensure that the downtime is minimal.
  • You will be developing software tools that interface between instruments and informatics platforms to ensure seamless transfer to data.
  • You will be documenting requirements, evaluating options, writing specifications, and coordinating with vendors to bring online new platforms that support research.

Your Navigation Tools:

  • BS or MS in a scientific or engineering discipline with at least 7 years of experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Hands-on experience with deploying and configuring automated systems, teaching robotic plate handlers, and scripting and validating liquid handlers.
  • Device driver development and programming experience in C++, Python, .NET or something similar.
  • Experience with optics platforms like microscopes, automated imagers and detectors.

Senior Bioinformatics Software Engineer

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated senior-level Software Engineer to help lead in the development of our genetic discovery platform. The successful candidate will join a team of computational biologists, systems architects and automation engineers to mobilize genetics and functional genomics data towards the discovery of new therapeutic targets and drugs.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

  • You will help design and build the software development ecosystem for the company.
  • You will work with Data Science, Human Genetics, Research Biology and Drug Development groups to implement production-quality, cutting-edge analytical methods
  • You will design, deploy and maintain robust tools for data management, analysis and communication.
  • You will lead the building of production-quality, scalable bioinformatics and genomics pipelines.
  • You will build and maintain relationships with the vendors, consultants and contractors who will help with software development and maintenance.
  • You will communicate complex software and data concepts and results to both internal and external audiences, and will contribute to open-source and collaborative projects.

Your Navigation Tools:

  • Advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in computer science, software engineering, data science or other scientific field that has relevance to high-dimensional biological data (e.g., genetics, genomics, imaging).
  • Extensive experience in the use of a high-level programming language (particularly Python, R/Bioconductor or C/C++).
  • Experience applying best practices for devops; expertise in continuous integration/continuous deployment; building and deploying Docker and familiarity with Kubernetes; certification in (or equivalent experience with) AWS cloud services.
  • Familiarity with Illumina sequencing technologies (including alignment, variant calling and annotation methods) or other high-dimensional biological data.
  • A demonstrated ability to understand engineering needs from multiple functions and an eagerness to work in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment; experience working and communicating with scientific teams; strong communication, data presentation and visualization skills.
  • A detail-oriented approach to projects, experience with troubleshooting and optimizing software systems and a demonstrated drive to raise the bar with every project

Compound Manager

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated senior-level individual to join us and contribute towards implementing and operationalizing a sample management facility to support our small molecule drug discovery programs. The individual will be responsible for managing the chemical sample from the time of synthesis through its journey in various stages of optimization in research. This person will interact with the compound management CRO and be the primary partner with this CRO.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

  • You will manage, maintain, process and dispense all compound requests to support drug discovery research programs.
  • You will be accountable for meeting timelines for compound requests and collaborating with chemists and other scientists to meet any compound needs.
  • You will put in place protocols and processes to ensure the integrity of the dispensed samples and for ensuring that the quality is highly consistent.
  • You will be responsible for working with automation engineers to put in place integrated platforms such as large-scale compound storage and compound processing units.
  • You will collaborate with the informatics team to implement and maintain inventory management and compound requesting platforms.
  • You will work alongside lead chemists to source compounds from commercial sources and own their integration into the sample bank.
  • You will work with software engineering to guide development of applications that aid in compound processing workflows such as sample transfer, compound dilution, and sample storage and tracking.
  • You will be responsible for working with our compound management CRO to ensure that timelines are met.
  • You will work with Research Infrastructure to design an organized and efficient compound management facility.

Your Navigation Tools:

  • BS in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field with 5+ years’ experience in a compound management/processing role. Lab bench experience is mandatory.
  • Hands-on experience scripting liquid handlers (tip based and non-contact acoustic dispensers) and developing LCMS methods for purity measurements.
  • Experience with basic troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
  • Experience with automated compound storage systems is a plus.
  • Experience with compound registration and other compound management related informatics platforms.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and working with CROs is a plus.
  • Excellent service-oriented communication skills, highly attentive to intrinsic details, multi-tasking capabilities, and ability to work collaboratively fast paced and dynamic environment.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

We are seeking talented and highly motivated individuals with expertise in molecular and cellular biology to join our functional genomics team. These individuals will catalyze our efforts to discover new therapeutic targets by developing and running cell-based CRISPR screens using a variety of assay technologies and contribute to development of new functional genomics screening technologies.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

  • Cell line engineering and assay development to enable functional genomic screening for new genetic modifier targets.
  • You will optimize, troubleshoot, and execute genome-wide lentiviral CRISPR screens with Next Gen Sequencing and other assay readouts.
  • Analysis of screen outputs and follow-up of hits with disease-relevant cell-based assays.
  • You will collaborate with colleagues on our therapeutic area teams to develop assay strategies for primary screens and hit validation assays.
  • Contribute to development of automated processes, data analysis methods, and advanced assay technologies including single cell RNA-seq assays and imaged-based high-content assays.

Your Navigation Tools:

  • BS/MS in a biological science discipline and at least 3-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Broad laboratory experience and skills in molecular and cell biology.
  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture is required, experience with cell line engineering, lentivirus transduction, and Next Gen Sequencing methodologies is preferred, and experience working with primary cells is a plus.
  • Expertise in cell-based assay development and screening using a variety of readout technologies including flow cytometry, image-based assays, reporter gene, and gene expression-based assays. Experience with large-scale CRISPR screens in pooled and/or arrayed formats is strongly desired.
  • Experience and comfort with laboratory automation is preferred, and high throughput screening experience is a plus.
  • Strong experimental design, troubleshooting, and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and organizational skills.
