Medical Director, Translational Medicine

We are seeking a Medical Director who will, as part building a Translational Medicine team in R&D, be responsible for the successful translation of gene modifier therapeutics from the pre-clinical proof of concept stage in R&D to first-in human trials. This includes ensuring trial readiness with regards to the optimization of natural history dataset, biomarkers, companion diagnostics and clinical outcomes. This also includes stakeholder engagement with clinicians, researchers and patient groups, as well as the design of potentially label-enabling first-in-human trials. The successful candidate will create a translational medicine function and partner with scientists and project leaders to develop a translational strategy for programs and targets as they move into development. While the new translational medicine function will play a critical role in early clinical development, it will also aid discovery research to discover and develop novel targets.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

  • You will be the Medical lead for clinical trials in various therapeutic areas from Candidate Nomination (pre-IND) through Proof-of-Concept. You will develop the clinical development strategy, design, implementation and analysis of early stage clinical trials and provide Clinical leadership on cross-functional Early Development project teams
  • You will be responsible for implementation of studies during the Proof of Concept phase by providing medical and scientific leadership and expertise to all line functions on the project team. This may include methodology studies to identify and validate novel endpoints for early decision making in Proof of Concept studies.
  • You will collaborate with translational sciences to design defining Clinical PD or Biomarker assays and bringing the biomarker strategy into early clinical development.
  • You will collaborate with research scientists to identify, develop, and implement strategy for preclinical support of program-related objectives. This includes assessment of medical need, proposal of clinical development pathways, and review of preclinical data for clinical implications, and other relevant activities
  • You will build, over time, a translational medicine function that will have heavy involvement across all programs from lead optimization to clinical development.

Your Navigation Tools:

  • MD Degree with experience in translational research/Phase 1 clinical trials (e.g., IND submittals, Proof-of-Concept studies, first-in-patient studies, adaptive design studies, biomarker development, companion diagnostics, mechanism of action studies).
  • A track record of scientific accomplishments which may included published papers, discovery and/or pre-clinical research, or collaboration with basic research scientists on new concepts.
  • Industry experience is preferred but not required; PhD degree is preferred but not required.
  • You are passionate about incorporating biomarker and clinical assays to optimize clinical trials and further aid late stage research.
  • You have evidence of successful collaboration with expert disease research scientists, and have a working knowledge of identifying and developing collaborative relationships externally.

We are seeking a Head of Medicinal Chemistry that will build and lead a team of talented chemists to generate, optimize and develop lead small novel small molecules. You will collaborate with other cross functional leaders to create a strategy for drug discovery and deliver development candidates for our small molecule programs.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

  • You will apply your drug hunting expertise to leading teams and developing strategy across the spectrum of drug discovery, but we are counting on your expertise in early discovery, including planning a lead generation strategy and executing on hit assessment through optimization and development candidate selection. You will work closely and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team of computational chemists, biophysicists, cell and molecular biologists, pharmacologists, and DMPK specialists. Your Navigation Tools:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry with an emphasis on synthetic organic chemistry, synthetic methodology or a related field.

Compound Manager

The individual will be responsible for managing the chemical sample from the time of synthesis through its journey in various stages of optimization in research. This person will interact with the compound management CRO and be the primary partner with this CRO.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

  • You will manage, maintain, process and dispense all compound requests to support drug discovery research programs.
  • You will be accountable for meeting timelines for compound requests and collaborating with chemists and other scientists to meet any compound needs.
  • You will put in place protocols and processes to ensure the integrity of the dispensed samples and for ensuring that the quality is highly consistent.
  • You will be responsible for working with automation engineers to put in place integrated platforms such as large-scale compound storage and compound processing units.
  • You will collaborate with the informatics team to implement and maintain inventory management and compound requesting platforms.
  • You will work alongside lead chemists to source compounds from commercial sources and own their integration into the sample bank.
  • You will work with software engineering to guide development of applications that aid in compound processing workflows such as sample transfer, compound dilution, and sample storage and tracking.
  • You will be responsible for working with our compound management CRO to ensure that timelines are met.
  • You will work with Research Infrastructure to design an organized and efficient compound management facility.

Your Navigation Tools:

  • BS in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field with 5+ years’ experience in a compound management/processing role. Lab bench experience is mandatory.
  • Hands-on experience scripting liquid handlers (tip based and non-contact acoustic dispensers) and developing LCMS methods for purity measurements.

Automation Engineer / Automation Manager

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated senior-level engineer to join us and contribute towards accelerating the drug discovery process by deploying cutting edge automation platforms. As we continue to bring more programs and processes online, the individual will play a key role in building out the automation group and infrastructure to support the growth.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:

  • You will be working closely with scientists to automate process to improve efficiency and throughput.
  • You will be responsible for deploying walk-up systems and fully integrated automated platforms comprising plate handling robots, liquid handlers, plate readers, storage devices, etc. to support discovery workflows.
  • As new processes come online, you will be responsible for working with scientists to transfer them to the automated platforms and train users to operate them.
  • You will be participating in the design and layout of the automated instrumentation lab as we start looking at a new facility.
  • You will be responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation and coordinating with the vendors to ensure that the downtime is minimal.
  • You will be developing software tools that interface between instruments and informatics platforms to ensure seamless transfer to data.
  • You will be documenting requirements, evaluating options, writing specifications, and coordinating with vendors to bring online new platforms that support research.

Your Navigation Tools:

  • BS or MS in a scientific or engineering discipline with at least 7 years of experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Hands-on experience with deploying and configuring automated systems, teaching robotic plate handlers, and scripting and validating liquid handlers.
  • Device driver development and programming experience in C++, Python, .NET or something similar.
  • Experience with optics platforms like microscopes, automated imagers and detectors.
